Vladimir, senior technology strategist at Monotype Imaging Inc, will be presenting on the web fonts track on the WOFF webfont format at 5.30pm on Wednesday 8 September.
Web authors have been limited in their creative and typographic freedom by very restrictive selection of “web-safe” resident fonts installed on a platform or supplied by a browser. The new technology developed by W3C WebFonts WG called “Web Open Font Format” (WOFF,) and ever increasing web fonts offerings will soon change the way we communicate on the Web. In this presentation, Vladimir will discuss “what the font” WOFF is, and, may be even more important, what it is not. A brief overview of the WOFF file format will be accompanied by the use case examples where we’ll review the usage of WOFF extended metadata and private data blocks, and implementations and tools that currently support this new web font container format.
Full details of the PreFace webfont strand can be found on the conference section of the site.Back to news
