Horacio is architect nd graphic designer and he runs his own studio in Rosario, Argentina, since 1980. He teaches graphic design and ortho-typography at undergraduate and postgraduate level at Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Universidad Abierta Interamericana de Argentina and Universidad de Barcelona, Spain. He has lead research projects for the Ministry of Education of Argentina and he has lectured in several national and international conferences. He was the founder and director of "Box, Diseño y Subcultura" Magazine and his two first books will be published this year by the Editorial de la Universidad Nacional del Litoral (Santa Fe, Argentina).

Language, as an abstract entity, can happen in spoken or written shape. Each one of them has its own characteristics. A lot has been discussed about spoken language and it is appropiate to do the same about writen language. For the purpose of this lecture, this means discussing how orthography, typography and graphic design work together to allow the correct interpretation of texts.
