The hand in type
is worth two in the bush
Susan Skarsgard asked ‘what if we all had our own dental equipment?’ The point being that computers put a powerful but untamed tool in the lettering designer’s hand. But the inflections and subtleties come from the movement of the hand.
Susan’s presentation used video interviews, stop-motion and jazz to give her featured lettering artists/type designers a chance to showcase the way they work on paper.
‘It was fun and the videos were fairly, what’s the word – crude, handmade, and a very effective way of... presenting... that’s not the right word’ reports our incoherence correspondent.
